So I decided that for once in my life I would get out of the house, so I did. Big mistake.
I went out with my aunt who I usually getting along smashingly with but yesterday was not her day. She had a crappy day at work and when she got back to the house she was slightly miffed. I wanted to go out to eat for supper and so I asked if we could go and that I would pay. Well that kind of improved her mood but not for long.
We headed out in the rain and drove down the street to my all time favorite Asian restaurant, Rice & Noodles. Usually when we go there we leave feeling very happy but not this time around. R&N has been open about a year and they serve a combo of Thai and Chinese food and their Thai food is to die for, usually. Every body and his dog goes to this place and they have a really good rap around town. But the girl that served us, I think something crawled up her ass and died. She didn't seem very happy to see us and took our order begrudgingly. She didn't even write down our order right away and I think she ended up putting other people's orders ahead of ours. The people sitting beside us came in ten or so minutes after we did and got their food before us. At first I didn't know why but I found out later. At this point we've place our order about ten minutes ago and we still did have plates or the pot of green tea that I ordered. I can't remember if our fried rice or our tea came first but the waiter didn't bring any of our stuff the whole time we were there. It was the owners wife or another waiter that brought our stuff. The tea was water when we poured it and the stir-fried veggies were crunchy and uncooked. The sauce on the curry chicken was watered down and I was getting slightly pissed.
After a while I kinda got the gist of what was happening after the people at the next table said some things. Part of it the waiter was just being an ass and the second part was that the people next to us were from the local radio station. I started wiggling my eyebrows when the owner, who is Chinese, went and poured tea for the people at the table beside us several times. Basically they were trying to suck up to the people from the radio station.
Anyways, to get to the point, my aunt ending up telling the owner's wife about our lack of service as I was paying for the bill. She kept saying she was sorry and my aunt kept telling her the same thing. Then my aunt started talking to the owner and by this time everything had gotten blown out of proportion and I wanted to become part of the wall. Then the owners wife goes and tells the owner at some point in Mandarin what was going on. He must not understand English very well and the wife blew things up even more. I can't tell you what she said word for word because my Mandarin is that great, but she kept saying "to much" and a lot of δΊ† in her sentences. Anyway, when it was all over I felt as if I should be saying sorry to them.
Oh well, let's just hope that this doesn't happen again for a while.
